1.Tom Ward is a seventh son of a seventh son and is the Spooks last apprentice. The spook is a man who rids the County of the dark. The dark includes creatures like ghosts, boggarts, witches, and demons. In this book, Tom and the Spook venture to the town called Todmordan. In Todmordan, lives a women called Mistress Fresque. She owns a library full of many useful books about the dark and how to rid the world of evil creatures. The Spook had his own library, but it burned down along with the rest of his house. That is why they are on a mission to rebuild the Spooks library by buying books off of other peoples libraries. When they reach the town, they realize it is a trap, and they realize that the town is full of witches who capture the spook. Tom is now on his own, so he sends a message to his friend Alice, who is one of the most powerful witches to ever live, but she is on Toms side and fights the dark. Alice arrives in Todmordan with Grimalkin the witch assassin, who is another friend of Tom's, and also fights the dark. They discover that the witches in Todmordan are working on a ritual, to raise the vampire god named, Siscoi. Tom, Alice, and Grimalkin fight the witches and get the Spook back. They flee back to the town of Chipendan where the Spook loves, and prepare for the war against the witches of Todmordan and the old vampire god Siscoi.
2. This book is a very intense book in this series, because the series is coming to an end, and the final battle of good versus evil is on the horizon. The author keeps turning the pages, with the books thrilling and action packed story line. I cannot wait to finish the book and read the next book in the series because as read the series it just gets better and better. You would think that after 10 books in one series, that you would get sick and tired of reading the series, but each book is filled with rich and great detail, and the minute you finish one book, you want to move right on to the next.
3. I think the theme of this book is everlasting power. Throughout the series Tom and the Spook have destroyed some of the most powerful creatures of the dark, but more and more come. Its almost a never ending cycle. In some parts of the series you think that there is just no more hope because the dark is just too powerful, and it can never be destroyed. In this book the dark is bringing the vampire god Siscoi back into the mortal world. I have no idea how Tom and his friends will be able to stop him and the rest of the witches. I can't help but think that Tom may lose some friends fighting the vampire god Siscoi, but if that happens, who will stand by Tom when he has to face the biggest enemy of all, the Fiend. The fiend is the main force of the dark and is the biggest threat of destroying the entire world. It just seems that the dark forever powerful and can never be stopped.
4. My favorite character in this book is Tom. He is so brave and has so much courage, and is willing to stand up against any thing or person who poses as a threat to him or to his loved ones. He does what is right, and never complains about it. He is forced to make the hardest decisions and will have to make even harder one in the future. He is so inspiring and whenever i lack courage to something, or I am forced to do something I don't want to do, I put myself in his shoes, and realize that whatever I am doing can't be that bad. If any character in any book, inspires you to do something or act in some way, then they are your favorite character, even if you don't think they are.
5. My least favorite character in this story is the Fiend. Everything he does is out of hate. His idea of a perfect world is one of complete chaos and destruction. Even though he says that he is the strong one, or the most powerful, he really is the weak one. He doesn't know what friendship is or what love is, and in the end, I know he will be defeated because he doesn't belong in the world. He has never done any good for the world, and he enjoys making peoples lives miserable. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series, just so I can see him be destroyed.
6. I think the author wants you to think that the book will end with a big battle between Tom and his friends, and the witches of Todmordan and the old god Siscoi
